Window blinds can be easily missed during a cleaning routine and unless you look up close, you may not even notice they’re dusty. Dust gathering on your window blinds can not only look unattractive but if people suffer from allergies in your home then dust can aggravate these. Cleaning your window blinds needn’t be a painful process though, it can be done quickly and easily. Check out our quick guide to cleaning different window blinds below. Cleaning fabric roller blinds

With fabric roller blinds you can clean them without cleaning as the simple act of rolling the blinds up and down helps to disperse the dust. If you’ve had your blinds for a while or if you often have your windows open then dust may start to build up. When your fabric roller blinds do need cleaning, simply roll the blinds all the way down and vacuum the fabric surface. Make sure you do this gently so as not to damage the fabric of the roller blinds. It’s particularly important to take care with fabric roller blinds which are made of delicate materials such as faux suede or pure cotton as using a damp cloth on these might lead to visible water marks and stains. Kitchen fabric roller blinds can sometimes attract marks which need something stronger than a vacuum so try a sponge and warm water which will easily glide away any stains. If you do use water to clean your fabric roller blinds then make sure your blinds are completely dry before you roll them up.

Cleaning aluminium blinds

Aluminium blinds are amongst the easiest blinds to clean as you don’t need to worry about staining or water marks. Firstly, vacuum the blinds with a brush attachment to ensure that the dust is dislodged before it is vacuumed. Once the majority of the dust is removed from your aluminium blinds, you can use a damp cloth and some washing up liquid to clean the slats. It’s a good idea to put some newspapers under the blinds to catch any drips. If your aluminium blinds need a really good clean then you should take them down and wash them in a bath with warm water and washing detergent. If you’re short for time then cover your hand in an old sock and run your hand along the slats to collect any dust.

Cleaning Wooden Window Blinds

Wooden window blinds can be a stunning addition to your home and should be kept in top condition to ensure they look amazing all year round. Wooden window blinds can be cleaned in a similar way to aluminium ones by vacuuming them to remove the bulk of the dust. As wet wood can warp or attract moulds, it’s best to avoid using water on wooden blinds and stick to a traditional duster or the sock trick above. If your wooden window blinds are looking dull even after cleaning, you could wipe the blinds with a cloth and some none wax furniture polish to really make them gleam.
