With the current economic climate some households will be trimming their redecorating budget but it is still possible to tap into the latest trends - all it takes is some clever decorating techniques.

  1. To save money on wallpapering a whole wall, cover a canvas instead.
  2. Support galleries displaying the work of emmerging artists. A small original print could set you back as little as acouple of hundred pounds.
  3. Source som funky fabric and make your own cushion covers. To get the latest look choose different shapes, sizes and textures. Don't be scared to mix patterns - geometric against paisley or stripes on stripes looks hot. A plain sofa or chair will make a good background to the look.
  4. Brush up on your DIY skills. Find an old antique chair that can be recovered to look striking or try getting out the paint brushes and breathe new life into that long forgotten dresser or side table with a coat of paint
  5. Go treasure hunting - you might be suprised what you can find to dress up your home. A piece of driftwood or dried branch can be an interesting centrepiece.
  6. Paint you own inexpensive canvas a pretty light green and then use leaves and a paint roller to print a leaf pattern. Stencils can also be used with great effect and little artistic talent.
  7. Keep it simple and fresh - On the dining table, look for a table runner and decorate a tall vase with big leaves from the garden.
  8. Some great stores to find bargains include Argos, Asda, Hobby Craft, B&Q, Homebase, Ikea. But don't forget your local garden centre, craft or gift shop.
